I LOVE cinematography workshops. No matter how experienced you are, a workshop is a chance to learn from another DP, and you can always learn something new, even if its just a little trick or two. In this case, for me at least, I learned quite a bit.
These videos cover several hours of workshops given at the beginning of the year by the likes of Karl Walter Lindenlaub ASC ("Independence Day", "Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian") and Gabriel Beristain BSC ("Blade 2", "The Ring 2"). Some of the video and audio can be a little bit rough in places but overall the presentation is clear and represents the workshop experience well. It reminds me a lot of the workshops that you can attend at Camerimage only most of these run longer and go into more technical detail, which is great.
I was always a big fan of the original Kodak Masterclass VHS tapes and what these guys are doing here is sort of a modern equivalent. I LOVED the Karl Walter Lindenlaub workshop in particular. He presents his ideas and ideology very well and I think he does lovely work so it was fantastic to watch him light a set over the course of 2 1/2 hours. Compared to the Friends of the ASC website the yearly subscription price is similar but in this case the 7+hours of video content more then justify the cost and really set a high standard for the ASC site to follow.
I've been told that more workshops and videos will follow over the next 12 -24 months, along with another US conference in 2013 (and possibly a European one too) so I'm hoping this will just be the tip of the iceberg but for now this is highly recommended for anyone with an interest in cinematography.

EDIT: The team have put a 5 minute sample from one of the workshops online.
